Large blue-grey Sponge (Callyspongia vaginalis) with prominent Brittlestars (Ophiothrix
swensonii).
Jackson Bay, Little Cayman Island - Depth 125 feet
or 38 meters
* This Large blue-grey Sponge (Callyspongia vaginalis)
is shown with prominent Brittlestar (Ophiothrix
swensonii). It is of interest to the diving naturalist that in several widely separated
habitats we found Ophiothrix
swensonii associated with the Demosponges Dasychalina cyathina
, Gelloides ramosa, Verongia sp., and what we believe is are
Agelus sp.. We have never found Brittlestars of any species
associated with the Iridescent Glassy Sponge (Callyspongia
plicifera). Bloody Bay Wall, Little Cayman Island. Depth 125 feet or 38 meters |
