Vine Maple in Autumn Colors, Lost Lake, and Mount Hood

Photo of the Month Gallery 2 - September

*Maples can always be relied on to contribute to autumn's display of colors. You may find them in rich muted tones in the forests of the eastern United states, as a bright red touch of color in the high narrow canyons of southwestern desert mountains, and among the old, moss covered conifers in the American Pacific Northwest. It is from this latter environment that September's photo of the month is chosen.

The location of the above photo is Lost Lake in the Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. In September, the vine maples in this area can be especially striking. When you combine the vivid color of the vine maple, the quiet waters of Lost Lake, and the pleasing symmetry of Mount Hood, you end up with an unforgettable scene, well worth the search.
