*Drivers along the Alpine Loop Road, either from Lake City, or from Silverton by way of Cinnamon Pass, should find American Basin a worthwhile side trip. Access to the upper parking area is by a rough road with a stream crossing, and is restricted to high clearance four wheel drive vehicles.
