Blooming Yucca elatas or Soaptrees serve as a foreground for El Niño's stormy skies.
White Sands National Monument, New Mexico - Late May
*The late May scene we found at White Sands National Monument could not have been more ideal if we had planned it. An El Niño storm that evening had momentarily broken, and the scene was flooded with beautiful golden light. Soap Tree Yuccas (Yucca elata) were blooming everywhere, and we were able to grab a few shots before the storm closed in. The gypsum dunes were lovely, and, as usual, two independent photographers had an advantage in the short span of the lighting (1). |
